Welcome to Introduction to CDF & Power BI!
Power BI is one of the most popular visualization tools. With the Cognite Power BI Connector, you can connect to Cognite Data Fusion (CDF). In this course, you will learn how you can connect Power BI to CDF and how filtering and aggregation work with the connector in Power BI.
The course requires hands-on work in Power BI so make sure to consult the prerequisites before you start.

Learning objectives

  • Explain the advantages of using the Cognite Power BI connector.
  • Set up and connect Power BI Desktop to a CDF project. 
  • Work with Filtering and Aggregate functionalities in Power BI.

Who should take this course?
Power BI users who want to start working with CDF. This course is also suitable for anyone who would like to have an overview of the main functionalities of the Cognite Power BI Connector.

Knowledge prerequisites
We recommend this course for intermediate Power BI users with knowledge of data modeling. To find out how to connect, transform and model data, please start here in the documentation by Microsoft. For more information on Power BI data sources and connectors, please refer to this documentation.

Technical prerequisites
You will need the PowerBI application to follow along with the course. You can download it here. Note that you need the November 2021 version (or later) of Power BI Desktop. To automatically stay updated with the latest version, download Power BI Desktop from the Microsoft Store. Power BI is currently only supported for Windows.
If you use a Mac, you will need to run Windows on your computer with the help of a virtual machine or parallel like Boot Camp.
In this course, you will be alternating between two windows: this e-learning course and Power BI. Therefore we suggest using two screens if possible to make switching windows easier.
